CRYSTAL PALACE DANCEHALL

Celebrated choreographer Michael Parmenter has gathered an exciting creative team to present two very special participatory dance events for the Wānaka Festival of Colour which take their inspiration from their unique venues.

The Crystal Palace Dancehall presents a generous selection of popular partner dances from the early twentieth century - mazurka, waltz, polka, ragtime, and blues - alongside the bourrées, ronds and jigs that continued to be danced in the dancehalls of Western Europe up to the dawning of the jazz age.

The Crystal Palace Dancehall will return the Spiegeltent to its original glory as a travelling dancehall.

This event will comprise of participatory dances preceded by brief dance instruction for each dance, interspersed with occasional music and dance performances.
