Calling all horse lovers and lovers of folklore! Rachael King’s novel for all ages, The Grimmelings, is set on a horse riding stables by a beautiful South Island lake. Sound familiar? Come along to Waterfall Equestrian Centre to hear stories of a vengeful kelpie–the water horse of Scottish folklore–haunting the family of 13-year-old Ella. Session will include afternoon tea and a chance to pat the ponies.

Rachael King is a writer, reviewer and former literary festival director from Christchurch. She loves music and started playing bass guitar in rock bands when she was 15, but these days spends more time listening than playing. When she was young, Rachael tried to ride every horse she met and could often be found galloping bareback along a beach with the wind in her hair. The Grimmelings is her second book for young people. Her next book is the first in a new junior series about a primary school girls’ rock band called Violet and the Velvets.
