A theatrical play reading.
What happens when you begin to tell the story of your life – and your life starts talking back? Award-winning theatre company Nightsong share excerpts from their new work-in-development, The Burning House, in a theatrical reading format.
Nightsong is one of New Zealand's leading independent theatre companies, known for acclaimed works including Te Pō, Mr Red Light, I Want to Be Happy and The Worm.
It’s Readers and Writers Week, and ‘An Evening with Christopher Busby’ is the hottest ticket in town. After thirty years abroad, the celebrated novelist has returned home to launch his memoir, The Burning House. As he reflects on his childhood, struggles as a writer, personal tragedy and his retreat to the island of Toraigh, the story begins to unravel. Perhaps Busby’s greatest work of fiction is himself.
The evening concludes with a discussion with Carl and Ben on crafting compelling stories and where this new work is heading.
